News

This past week saw over 250 children and young people taking part in a variety of sport sessions located all across the borough. From Rainham to Noak Hill, it was an action packed week of activity.

Parkour / Free Running proved prevalent with Robyn and Niko from Above Parkour delivering to an enthusiastic group of youngsters. Due to its success, we have established a weekly club at Harrow Lodge Park that runs every Monday evening. Sessions for those aged 10 – 13 is from 4.30 – 5.30pm and those aged 14 – 17 can come down from 5.30 – 6.30pm.

Athletics was another huge hit where Coach Jordan and Peter helped the athletes build from the momentum of the ever-popular Friday afternoon sessions held every week in the lead up to half term.

Our West Ham Football Camp saw the biggest turnout to date with spaces filling up in just a matter of days. We had more female attendees this time around which is always positive to see. It is exciting to be able to offer this extremely valuable opportunity every holiday in collaboration with the West Ham Foundation and their excellent coaching staff.

Josh from VIP HQ came out to the MyPlace Centre in Harold Hill and delivered a really positive self-defence course for a group of local young women. This was well attended and the ladies walked away feeling both confident and educated on how to handle themselves whilst out and about in the community.

The Essex Spartans Academy facilitated a fantastic afternoon of American Football which drew a nice group of young men who thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a sport they had never tried before. Brittons Academy is the perfect location for this and everyone walked away with an official jersey keepsake at the end of the day.

Netball, Golf and ‘She Can Play’ Football each received extremely encouraging feedback from participants and parents alike. These sessions are now well established and will feature in our half term schedules moving forward.

THANK YOU to all of our coaching staff, collaborative partners and facilities for working alongside us to produce an extensive, successful portfolio of sport. Regular weekly sessions are back up and running so we hope to see you at one (or more) of those.

We are now in the preparation stage for summer so be sure to check the School Holiday Activities tab on the Havering Active website for booking links to all our available events.
