This weekend our cross country runners competed in the first event of the London Youth Games season. We had some fantastic results and each competitor should be extremely proud of their achievements.

Abigail Ives won the U-15 female category in a time of 7:25 (2,000m) and the U-15 team took home the silver medal. Stephanie O’Koro came 3rd in the U-13 female category with a time of 7:54 (2,000m) and the U-13 team claimed gold. Those two combined results meant the Havering Girls came in 3rd overall for the entire event just behind Bromley and Wandsworth.

Alex Ford finished 5th in the U-15 male event with a time of 10:28 (3,000m) and the Havering Boys team came in 9th overall.

Thank you to all those friends and family members who came down to support our athletes. We had great weather for the occasion and we left the course feeling positive with the accomplishments of the day. Coming up next will be the Cricket and Boccia finals in which we are hoping to finish strong as well.

Starting Wednesday 7th November, the MyPlace Centre are offering a FREE 6 week course for young people aged 13 - 19 in partnership with Team VIP. Sessions include: boxing, self-defence and general fitness.

This October Half Term saw close to 300 children and young people taking part in a variety of sports sessions all across the borough.

Parkour / Free Running proved very popular with Brad and Team Kinetix delivering another smash of a session for our youth. We are now working on developing a club where participants can come along every week and practice.

Athletics was another huge hit where coaches helped build from the success of the weekly sessions held in the lead up to half term. It was great to see lots of future Olympians taking part and enjoying themselves.

Muay Thai Boxing was fun and furious at the Battlefield Gym in Romford. Lots of fast fists and feet on the day! We were pleased to add this new activity to our roster and see it doing so well.

The back-to-back Handball and Futsal sessions at Bower Park Academy drew many enthusiastic participants and we witnessed some amazing hand and foot work coming from both boys and girls who came out to play.

Netball at Frances Bardsley was a smash with many young ladies working on their skills, drills, attack and defence as well as taking part in awesome game play to finish the day.

The West Ham Football camp was as popular as ever with sessions booking to capacity very very quickly. We had our biggest turnout to date and found ourselves lucky with the cool, calm weather on the day. Perfect playing conditions!

We rounded out the week with an indoor rock climbing session at the YMCA.

Over in Para Sport, we held Multi-Sport sessions at Chafford, the YMCA and MyPlace Centres, Athletics at Hornchurch Stadium, Swimming and Ice Skating at Sapphire in Romford. It was wonderful to see some new faces as well as regulars in attendance at each of these.

A big THANK YOU goes out to all our coaching staff, partners and facilities for working extremely hard and doing such a great job teaming up with us to produce a fun-filled portfolio of sport and exercise this past week.

We can confirm that regular weekly sessions are now back up and running after a short break so we hope to see you at one (or more) of those.

We are now planning February half term and working on even more action-packed activities for the community. Be sure to check the School Holiday Activities tab on this website for schedules and booking links within the new year.

The 2018 Summer Holiday programme saw over 800 children and young people taking part in a variety of sports sessions all across the borough.

Athletics at Hornchurch Stadium remained very popular with 200 children attending over the 16 sessions delivered with coaches Nikki, Jo, Jordan, Tosin and Phil.

The West Ham Football Camps at Brittons Academy were fully booked week to week and they battled 30+ degree days, icy temperatures and pouring rain across five consecutive Thursday's. Overall these were a huge success.

Upminster Golf was also full to capacity and we had some brand new members attending which is fantastic to see.

Lamar Roberts from the London Lions and his RDF coaching squad helped facilitate Basketball clinics and 3x3 tournaments at Bower Park Academy. It was great to watch the young ballers working on their craft.

Parkour/Free Running proved extremely popular with the local youth these holidays. As a result of this success and mass interest, we are developing a weekly club in conjunction with Havering’s Children’s Services and Team Kinetix – looking to start in early October.

Over at the YMCA we ran three multi-sport events for children with disabilities which saw 47 attending. Cricket, Tennis, Boccia, Football and the Para Arts team were all present and helped deliver some really fun afternoons.

Finally, our Netball, Girls’ Football, Family Fun in the Park, Sports Camps and Housing Projects ran smoothly despite the threatening rain cancelling the odd session.

A big thank you to all our coaching staff, partners and facilities for working extremely hard, putting in big hours and doing such a great job teaming up with us to produce a fantastic portfolio of sport and exercise for our community.

We look forward to seeing everyone again during October half term for more action-packed activities. Be sure to check the School Holiday Activities tab for schedules and booking links in the very near future.
