News

The last five weeks saw over 1000 children and young people taking part in a variety of sport activity located across Havering. From Rainham to Noak Hill and back again, it has certainly been an action packed summer for all.

Our Youth programme designed for those aged 11+ included the usual favourites; Parkour and West Ham Football camps, which were popular and very well attended. The Essex Spartans Academy also facilitated an American Football Day Camp which drew a group of 26 enthusiastic attendees.

Furthermore, this year we were successful with a bid for the ‘Summer Sport Activities Fund’ as part of the Mayor of London’s ‘Younger Londoners Fund’. This aims at delivering sport-specific projects for those aged 11 – 25 at risk of crime within the borough. This has meant we’ve been able to deliver the likes of Boxing, a full Street Sports programme and Street Wheelz: a cycle maintenance and route planning course. We have to thank the Groundwork Organisation for their consideration on our application and everyone that was involved in making outcomes positive.

Activities for 5 – 11 year olds featured 20 Athletics sessions at Hornchurch Stadium, Netball, Tennis, Golf, Rugby and more West Ham Football camps. We also put on an array of Family Fun days in a range of local parks, attended the Romford Summer Marketplace Event and the Havering Show as part of the official Sports Zone in partnership with Everyone Active. Attendances were high across the board and we were pleased to see our regulars as well as some fresh faces coming along to take part.

Over in the Para Active sector, we delivered Multi-Sport events at the YMCA, Athletics and Swimming at Romford’s Sapphire Ice & Leisure. Our participation figures have doubled from 2018’s summer which is extremely encouraging. Due to the numbers at Athletics we have now managed re-boot the weekly club that runs on Friday afternoon at Bridge Avenue, Hornchurch.

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to all of our coaching staff, collaborative partners and local facilities for working alongside us to produce such a fantastic portfolio for five whole weeks.

Looking ahead, regular weekly sessions will be back up and running as of 9th September. We hope to see you at one (or more) of those in the near future. Please check our social media pages and Havering Active website for updates and notifications. Finally, be sure to visit the School Holiday Activities tab on the Havering Active website later this month for October Half Term bookings which is currently under construction.

The Essex Spartans Academy Youth team have completed an incredible regular season with 10 victories, and in doing so, have secured a place at the National Finals!

But they need your help...

These young men aged between 13 and 16 have to travel to Stourbridge, in the Midlands, to compete for the National Finals. They are fundraising to reduce the cost each player will need to pay themselves to have this amazing opportunity to face off against the best of the best.

Please visit the link below to donate if you can. Any little bit helps:
