October Half Term Success
This October Half Term saw over to 120 children and young people taking part in a variety of sports sessions all across the borough.
Parkour / Free Running with Above Parkour delivered fun sessions across two days inviting new comers to attend their weekly run sessions in the borough. We are now looking for an indoor space to help continue run these fantastic session over the winter period.
Athletics was another huge hit where coaches helped build from the success of the weekly sessions held in the lead up to half term. It was great to see lots of future Olympians taking part and enjoying themselves.
Netball at Frances Bardsley was a smash with many working on their skills, drills, attack and defence as well as taking part in awesome game play to finish the day.
The West Ham Football Camp was as popular as ever with sessions booking to capacity very quickly. The weather managed to hold out for this, however unfortunately not for the Football Tournament after causing it to be cancelled.
Table Tennis Tournament at My Place was a hit with those involved enjoying the fun tournament with coach Colin.
Over in Para Sport, we held Multi-Sport sessions with Athletics coach Sheila and Peter and Jordan from the Havering Tennis Club at the YMCA, Swimming at Sapphire in Romford and the new Movement to Music session at Hornchurch Sports Centre. It was great to see some new faces as well as regulars in attendance at each of these.
A big THANK YOU goes out to all our coaching staff, partners and facilities for working extremely hard and doing such a great job teaming up with us to produce a fun-filled portfolio of sport and exercise during this week.
We can confirm that regular weekly sessions are now back up and running after a short break so we hope to see you at one (or more) of those.
We are now planning February Half Term and working on even more action-packed activities for the community. Be sure to check the School Holiday Activities tab on this website for schedules and booking links within the new year.

A Summer Summary
- Details
The last five weeks saw over 1000 children and young people taking part in a variety of sport activity located across Havering. From Rainham to Noak Hill and back again, it has certainly been an action packed summer for all.
Our Youth programme designed for those aged 11+ included the usual favourites; Parkour and West Ham Football camps, which were popular and very well attended. The Essex Spartans Academy also facilitated an American Football Day Camp which drew a group of 26 enthusiastic attendees.
Furthermore, this year we were successful with a bid for the ‘Summer Sport Activities Fund’ as part of the Mayor of London’s ‘Younger Londoners Fund’. This aims at delivering sport-specific projects for those aged 11 – 25 at risk of crime within the borough. This has meant we’ve been able to deliver the likes of Boxing, a full Street Sports programme and Street Wheelz: a cycle maintenance and route planning course. We have to thank the Groundwork Organisation for their consideration on our application and everyone that was involved in making outcomes positive.
Activities for 5 – 11 year olds featured 20 Athletics sessions at Hornchurch Stadium, Netball, Tennis, Golf, Rugby and more West Ham Football camps. We also put on an array of Family Fun days in a range of local parks, attended the Romford Summer Marketplace Event and the Havering Show as part of the official Sports Zone in partnership with Everyone Active. Attendances were high across the board and we were pleased to see our regulars as well as some fresh faces coming along to take part.
Over in the Para Active sector, we delivered Multi-Sport events at the YMCA, Athletics and Swimming at Romford’s Sapphire Ice & Leisure. Our participation figures have doubled from 2018’s summer which is extremely encouraging. Due to the numbers at Athletics we have now managed re-boot the weekly club that runs on Friday afternoon at Bridge Avenue, Hornchurch.
We would like to say a big THANK YOU to all of our coaching staff, collaborative partners and local facilities for working alongside us to produce such a fantastic portfolio for five whole weeks.
Looking ahead, regular weekly sessions will be back up and running as of 9th September. We hope to see you at one (or more) of those in the near future. Please check our social media pages and Havering Active website for updates and notifications. Finally, be sure to visit the School Holiday Activities tab on the Havering Active website later this month for October Half Term bookings which is currently under construction.
