More than 125 young people and children got involved in the October half term activities. We ran a youth sport basketball camp, two football camps and a parkour session for first-timers. Over in the disability sport sector we had swimming, a multi-sport event, more football and an arts/music session. Central Park Leisure Centre, Chafford Sport Complex, Brittons Academy, Hornchurch Leisure Centre, Fairkytes and the Robert Beard Centre each hosted one (or more) of the activities on offer. Everyone Active, West Ham United, Essex Cricket, Five Star Basketball and MyPlace staff all worked with Havering Health & Sports Development to ensure that venues and activities were tailored to the needs of the participants.

Some of the feedback from the young people and parents of the children: 

"Kids both told me they enjoyed today, so thanks to you and your team for always making us feel so welcome."
"These sessions helped get my kids up off the couch and out of the house these holidays."
"I always enjoy coming along, meeting new people, working on new skills and having fun with coaches."

We look forward to hosting our children and young people again this Christmas!

Havering’s Physical Activity Referral Scheme is now delivered by Everyone Active. The scheme offers support and advice to help increase  physical activity levels for those with certain medical conditions

What is Exercise Referral?

An Exercise Referral is a specific and formalised programme whereby a medical professional refers a patient to a fitness programme, often based within the community. It is not the same as a ‘recommendation’ to exercise. A formal agreement will exist between the referrer and the exercise project. Usually (though not exclusively) run by local authority leisure centres, they will typically ensure a 12 week supervised programme of physical activity tailored to suit the needs of the referrer and the referred client, with a view to improving their state of health.
